Gustavo Morello to Deliver 2019 D'Arcy Lectures

Campion Hall is honored to host Associate Professor of Sociology at Boston College Gustavo Morello for the 2019 D'Arcy Lectures.

The Martin D’Arcy Memorial Lectures are an annual series established by Campion Hall in 1976 to be delivered, usually by a fellow Jesuit, in honour of the celebrated Master of the Hall from 1933-45.

Morello is an expert on Latin America, with a particular focus on the relationship between religion and political violence. His 2015 book The Catholic Church and Argentina's Dirty War (Oxford University Press) 'draws on interviews with victims of forced disappearance, documents from the state and the Church, field observation, and participant observation in order to provide a deeper view of the relationship between Catholicism and state terrorism during Argentina's Dirty War.'

Morello's seven lectures will address themes and problems related to the study of religion in Latin America, including, "What do Latin Americans do when they do religion?" and "What can we learn from Latin American religiosity?"
