Raymond was called to the Bar of England and Wales in 1988, after reading for a BA in Jurisprudence at Balliol College (1984-1987). He practised at that bar and, more recently, as a partner in the London office of an international law firm, at the bars of some of the British Overseas Territories, specialising in the law of trusts, both contentious and non-contentious. He was a lecturer in law at King's College London and Teacher in the University of London (1994-2004), specialising in the law of trusts and jurisprudence. He also taught jurisprudence (1994 to 2004) on the London Juris Doctor Program for the University of Notre Dame. 
 
He obtained a pontifical baccalaureate in philosophy in 1993 at Milltown Institute of Theology and Philosophy (Dublin) and an MA in the Faculty of Theology and Religion at King's College London in 2021.
