Campion Hall Celebrates the Graduation of Nine Exceptional Scholars

Campion Hall had the honour of celebrating the graduation of nine remarkable members of our community last week.

The graduating cohort included:

  • Javahir Alakbarli, MSc in Migration Studies
  • Emilio Chuvieco, DPhil in Theology and Religion
  • Maisie Dixon-Coyte, MSc in Music
  • Elia Gittardi, MSt in Theology
  • Andrew Hochstedler, DPhil in Asian and Middle Eastern Studies
  • Mayamiko Kachipapa,  MSt in Theology
  • Matthew Matisz (in absentia), MSt in Theology
  • Carl Scerri, DPhil in Theology and Religion
  • Charlotte Yi-Yuen Shiah, MSt in History of Art and Visual Culture

Their achievements represent a breadth of scholarship, spanning Theology, Music, Migration Studies, Ecclesiastical History, and the History of Art and Visual Culture. Each graduate has made a lasting contribution to the intellectual and communal life of Campion Hall.

"The community came out in force to celebrate this day of fulfilment for our eight distinguished graduates, and we were delighted to welcome their family and friends who have accompanied and supported them in their studies. It was a real privilege to be able to present them to a very jovial Pro-Vice Chancellor. Nobody at the ceremony minded having sore palms from the many rounds of applause!"

Dr Sarah Apetrei, Acting Master and Senior Tutor at Campion Hall.

The day began with a warm welcome at the Hall, with our Acting Master, Dr Sarah Apetrei, presiding over the occasion. Grace was offered by our Chaplain, Revd Dr Brian Mac Cuarta SJ, before graduates and their families enjoyed a joyful reception and lunch together. Celebrations then continued at the Sheldonian Theatre, where the University of Oxford conferred degrees in its historic ceremony.

On returning to Campion Hall, the community gathered to share cake and champagne, with inspiring words from Professor Peter Davidson marking the occasion. Our heartfelt thanks go to our Events Team, led by Hector Delcuratolo, whose gracious hospitality ensured the day was both memorable and joyous.

To our graduates: congratulations. We are immensely proud of your accomplishments and wish you every success as you embark on the next chapter of your journey. We hope you will always remain close to the Campion Hall family.
