
Dr Stephen Withnell
Stephen Withnell's interests include British and European art and architecture from the early modern period into the twentieth century, with a current research focus on Catholic material and visual culture. Stephen has published widely in academic and cultural journals, including Rewley House Studies in the Historic Environment, the Georgian Group Journal, and the Oxford Review of Books. Forthcoming articles explore nineteenth century Catholic church-building in the North of England and Jesuit architecture in the Victorian period.
Stephen read for his DPhil in Architectural History at Oxford. He completed undergraduate studies in History at Durham University and graduate studies in the History of Art & Architecture at the University of London. He is a graduate of the International Directors Programme at INSEAD.
Stephen is Trustee of the London Library.
