About
John Barton is Emeritus Oriel & Laing Professor of the Interpretation of Holy Scripture 1991-2014, and Fellow of Oriel College; previously Reader in Biblical Studies and Fellow of St Cross College 1974-1991. He is Senior Research Fellow at Campion Hall and Emeritus Fellow of Oriel and St Cross Colleges. He is also Fellow of the British Academy and of the Norwegian Academy of Arts and Sciences, and Honorary Dr. theol. of University of Bonn. In August 2024, John Barton was elected as a member of Academia Europaea.
